Strictly speaking,
Adam K. Bert was not a cachetmaker because the majority of FDCs he
produced have no
cachet. But his covers are distinct nevertheless, due to their size
(5-1/2 by 3-1/8 inches) and his (usually typed) address.
Mr. Bert was born in
1905 and serviced his first FDC in 1923. He was chairman of the AFDCS
expertising committee from 1973 to 1979, and wrote a column for FIRST DAYS
from 1965 to 1983. He continued to service covers into the 21st
century, and celebrated his 100th birthday in 2005. He lived at the
Strabane Woods retirement community in Washington, Pa. until his death on February 22, 2007, age 102.
