Various Engravings by Czeslaw Slania
Engravings, page 1 Engravings, page 2 Engravings, page 3
Czeslaw Slania has made a large number of various engravings for no particular purpose, either for private use, or as practice works. They all show his prolific talents in a much larger scale than in stamp format. Thanks to collector friends I am able to show some of them on this site for your pleasure. Enjoy :)
The Battle at Grunwald 1410. Engraved after the original painting by the Polish painter Jan Matejko (1838-1893), belonging to the National Gallery in Warsaw, Poland. See also Slania's horse-engravings after paintings by the Polish painter Piotr Michalowski.
This painting has been used for stamps at several occasions:
Poland 1945 (Scott # 368),
Poland 1960 (Scott # 924), issued at the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the battle, and
Poland 1978 (Scott # 2282), a souvenir sheet at the occasion of the Philatelic Exhibition Praga '78.
None of the above mentioned stamps are engraved by Czeslaw Slania.
